Get Vertical in Honor of National Chiropractic Health Month

Arlington, Va.- In October, the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) will once again lead the country in celebrating National Chiropractic Health Month (NCHM). This year's theme--"Get Vertical"--focuses on getting off the couch or out of the office chair, and standing or moving more each day. Most people nowadays know someone with joint pain, and joint replacement surgery--particularly involving hips and knees--is commonplace. What many do not know is that simple lifestyle changes can in some cases help prevent the need for this type of surgery and keep joints healthier longer. "For patients, remaining physically active and pain-free is an important measure of the quality of their lives, and they deserve to know that chiropractic physicians can provide exercise and lifestyle recommendations, nutritional advice, and natural approaches to managing aches and pains," said ACA President Keith Overland, DC. "Staying healthy can feel overwhelming, when just a few healthy lifestyle changes, over time, can potentially mean the difference between being scheduled for joint replacement surgery or remaining active and pain-free well into one's golden years." To kick off the celebration, ACA has created an online tool kit for ACA members, chiropractic associations, chiropractic colleges, Student American Chiropractic Association (SACA) chapters and anyone who wishes to participate. The kit contains information and resources that will assist participants in planning and implementing NCHM activities at local and regional levels. Certain resources are exclusively available to ACA members. For more information on how to participate, visit www.acatoday.org/NCHM. The American Chiropractic Association (ACA), celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2013, is the largest professional association in the United States representing doctors of chiropractic. ACA promotes the highest standards of patient care and professional ethics, and supports research that contributes to the health and well-being of millions of chiropractic patients.
